Indian Wedding in Azerbaijan: 2026 FAQ (Cost, Visas, Venues, Food, Ceremony)

These are the questions couples and planners ask us most, answered in short, liftable passages, each one re-checked against a government or brand source on 10 August 2026. The short version: a Baku Indian wedding runs about USD 1,700 to 4,300 per guest all-in, Indian guests need an e-visa (USD 29, 3 working days), the outdoor season is May and late September to October, and vegetarian, Jain and halal catering, mandaps, pandits and baraats are all arranged on the ground.

Cost

A Baku Indian wedding is priced per guest and per day, not as a package, and the two things that move it most are season and how many venues the program touches. Below is the range we quote from and how it compares with Dubai, which is the destination most Indian and GCC-resident couples are pricing us against.

How much does an Indian wedding in Azerbaijan cost?

For a 3-day program with a 5-star anchor, all-in cost runs about USD 1,700 to 4,300 per guest, before international guest flights. That is roughly USD 240,000 for 100 guests up to about USD 1.02 million for 300 guests at full custom production. The per-guest figure falls as the count rises. Our cost report breaks it down.

Is it cheaper than Dubai?

Usually, yes, on the production stack rather than on hotel rates. A 150 to 200-guest Baku wedding runs roughly USD 300,000 to 550,000, against Dubai's AED 1.5 to 2 million. Visas and flights

Every Indian passport holder needs an e-visa, wherever they live, with one exception for UAE residents. Everyone arrives by air, because the land borders are shut. And the India route is thinner in 2026 than the market assumes, which is a guest-list planning fact before it is a travel fact.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Azerbaijan?

Yes. The e-visa costs USD 29, a USD 20 state fee plus a USD 9 service fee, and is issued within 3 working days through the official portal at evisa.gov.az. It is single entry, valid 90 days, and allows a stay of up to 30 days. An urgent 3-hour lane exists and carries a further fee the portal does not publish. The portal takes family applications of 2 to 10 people and group applications of 10 to 300, which is how we file a 200-guest list as one batch. Confirm current fees on the official portal; note that evisa.govt.az and similar lookalike domains are not the government site.

Do Indian guests living in the UAE still need an e-visa?

Not necessarily. An Indian national holding a UAE residence visa with at least 6 months validity left, on a passport with at least 4 months left, is eligible for a visa on arrival at Azerbaijani airports, per the Azerbaijan embassy in the UAE. Residence in other Gulf states does not automatically carry the same rule, so we check each guest's residence and passport dates before ticketing rather than assuming symmetry.

Does anyone need to register after arriving?

Yes, for longer stays. Anyone staying more than 15 days has to be registered with the State Migration Service, which the hotel does free of charge as the place of stay. For a wedding week nobody hits it, but families who arrive early and stay on for a Gabala or Shahdag leg do. We check the registration was actually filed, because the liability for missing it sits with the guest.

How long is the flight from India to Baku?

Delhi to Baku is about 4 hours 40 minutes nonstop, 7 times a week on Azerbaijan Airlines, which has carried the Air India code since 29 July 2026 so a guest can buy Baku on a single Air India ticket. Mumbai to Baku is about 5 hours 20 minutes, also 7 a week on AZAL. IndiGo's Baku service is suspended over Iranian-airspace routing and an October 2026 restart appears in filed schedules only, so treat it as a timetable, not a commitment. From the Gulf, Dubai to Baku runs 16 nonstops a week, fastest block 2 hours 55 minutes, which is why GCC-resident guest lists move here easily.

Can guests drive in from Georgia?

No. Azerbaijan's land borders are closed to inbound passenger traffic, currently extended to 1 October 2026, so the Tbilisi drive-in that used to feed combined itineraries is gone. A guest who flew in may exit overland by road, without permission, which makes a one-way Baku to Tbilisi post-wedding leg workable in that direction only.

Venues and season

Baku has four city anchors that carry a large Indian wedding and one beach resort, after the Absheron coast lost its beachfront ballroom to a renovation running to summer 2027. Size every room on the seated-banquet figure rather than the reception maximum, then subtract for the mandap, the stage and the dance floor.

Which Baku hotels can host a large Indian wedding?

JW Marriott Absheron publishes the largest room in the city, up to 700 seated in the Sharg ballroom across 1,957 m² of event space. Sea Breeze Resort seats up to 500 in its beachfront Event Hall. Four Seasons Baku seats 300 in the 640 m² Segah Ballroom, 500 for a reception. Fairmont Flame Towers is the one to read carefully: its own wedding page gives 350 in the capacity chart, 400 in the intro and 600 in the FAQ, and 350 is the figure we plan a plated dinner against. When is the best time for a wedding in Baku?

May and late September to October. Those are the warmest months with near-zero rain days and the lowest wind of the year, 17.0 to 17.9 kph mean against 21.6 kph in March. July and August average a daily maximum of 30.5 to 30.6°C with a UV index of 8 to 9, so functions run evening-only. November to April is cheaper but cold and windy, and March is the windiest month of all, so outdoor and Caspian-side functions become a risk you plan around rather than a plan.

Can you have an outdoor or beach wedding?

Yes, on the Caspian coast at Sea Breeze, which gives pool-side and open-air options about 30 minutes from central Baku. Bilgah Beach Hotel, the other beach anchor, is closed for renovation and its own site states a summer 2027 reopening, so it is not contractable for a 2026 or early-2027 date. Book a covered fallback in parallel for any outdoor function, because Baku is windy in every month of the year and the sea breeze can close an open-air set-up on short notice.

Food and ceremony

Halal is the standing default in Baku hotel kitchens, so a mixed Indian and Gulf guest list needs no special arrangement. Vegetarian is straightforward through the city's Indian-restaurant estate. Jain is the specialist case, and it depends on a hotel agreeing to an outside kitchen. Mandaps, pandits and baraats are all arranged, none of them off the shelf.

Is vegetarian and Jain food available?

Yes. We run pure-vegetarian and Jain no-onion no-garlic sattvic menus through our Indian-cuisine kitchen partners, with halal as standard for a mixed guest list. Azerbaijan adopted a national halal tourism standard, AZS OIC/SMIIC 9:2026, in April 2026; there is no public register of certified hotels, so we confirm each property's certification in writing. Jain usually needs an outside caterer on a satellite kitchen, which the host hotel has to agree to in writing, so it is contracted early. The catering manifest is signed off before arrival, not negotiated meal by meal on site.

Can you get a Hindu pandit in Baku?

Yes, but generally flown in from India or sourced regionally, because Azerbaijan has only around 500 resident Hindus. We plan the pandit as a logistics line, with flights and accommodation, weeks ahead.

Can you build a mandap and run a baraat?

Yes. Mandaps are built with local fabricators inside ballrooms and on terraces; baraats process with a dhol on hotel forecourts, the Boulevard and Philharmonic Park. Open flame for the saptapadi and procession routing are cleared with each venue. The cultural-execution guide has the detail.

Is alcohol allowed?

Yes. Azerbaijani law is not sharia-based, alcohol is sold widely and served in hotels, so a full bar is standard alongside halal catering. The narrower and more accurate point for a planner: no source publishes event-level licensing, corkage or service-hour rules, so we settle those in the banquet agreement per venue rather than assuming a blanket permission.

Legal and safety

Two questions that decide whether a couple books, answered without hedging. A legal marriage does not fit inside a wedding week in Azerbaijan, and the 2026 arrivals picture is worse than the 2025 numbers most pages still quote.

Can Indian couples legally marry in Azerbaijan?

Not inside a wedding week. The Family Code puts a one-month statutory wait between the application and the registration and requires a pre-marriage medical examination; registration runs through ASAN Xidmət at a 5 manat state fee, with every foreign document apostilled and translated into Azerbaijani. The US Embassy in Baku adds a temporary residence permit requirement and an end-to-end timeline of about two months, but that requirement does not appear in the Family Code and the embassy page dates from 2024, so it is indicative rather than settled. Is Azerbaijan safe for Indian weddings in 2026?

A real question, not a dealbreaker. Indian arrivals fell from 243,589 in 2024 to 166,944 in 2025 and then to 17,373 in Q1 2026, down 68.3% year on year, per the State Statistical Committee bulletins. No official release states a cause, so we are not going to supply one. Venues, flights and visa rules are unchanged, India still supplied 13.6% of every foreign hotel night in Azerbaijan in 2025, and room blocks are easier to hold than they were in 2024. What we won't promise

Short list, because these are the four places a Baku wedding proposal usually overclaims.

• A legal marriage registered in Azerbaijan on a tourist e-visa. The one-month statutory wait alone rules it out for most fly-in couples, and the residence question on top of it is unresolved. We do not speak for the legislator and we do not issue legal opinions on Azerbaijani marriage or migration law; where a couple is set on registering here, we bring in a local lawyer before anyone promises a date.
• A venue that is not contractable. Bilgah Beach Hotel is offline until summer 2027. Any 2026 proposal showing it, ours or anyone's, was not checked.
• An outside Jain kitchen inside a hotel without that hotel's written agreement. No Baku property publishes the policy, so it is negotiated per venue and closed in writing before the menu is designed.
• An outdoor function without a contracted indoor fallback. Mean wind in Baku never drops below about 17 kph in any month. We hold the fallback whatever the season, and we have moved a mehndi indoors on the morning of.
